Comprehensive Eye Exam

During your annual comprehensive eye examination, your doctor scrutinizes the entire vision system. We carefully examine both the exterior and interior of the eyeball, looking for evidence of eye diseases like glaucoma and cataracts; vision conditions like nearsightedness and farsightedness and health problems like diabetes and hypertension.

Our doctors and technicians explain the tests as they perform them, so that you know what's going on. We are trained in the latest technology and can address all of your eye care questions. We want to help you understand all your vision options.

If problems are discovered, your doctor will offer a treatment plan geared to your specific problem and appropriate for your lifestyle.

Your Comprehensive Eye Examination includes:

  • Refraction - determines the optical lens strength required in order for you to see clearly and effortlessly.
  • Binocular Vision Skills - insures that your eyes work together properly as a unity. The skills include depth perception, eye muscle coordination and the ability to change focus from near to far objects.
  • Visual Field Screening (as necessary) - checks your peripheral vision. Abnormalities in peripheral vision can affect mobility and driving. This test may also detect diseases of the eyes or neurological disorders.
  • Color Vision Screening (as necessary) - measures your ability to perceive colors properly.
  • Eye Health Assessment - evaluates your pupil responses, optic nerve, retina, cornea and lens. Tests are performed to determine the presence of cataracts or glaucoma.
  • Treatment Options - At the conclusion of your comprehensive eye exam, your individualized treatment plan is discussed with you. Your options for correcting vision problems include eyeglasses, contact lenses and refractive surgery. If an eye disease is detected we will discuss your treatment options including medications or surgery.

  • We recommend that you have a complete eye exam every 12 months to protect your eyes and your vision. Systemic disease such as diabetes may require more frequent examinations.
